Challenges I faced before joining the program were lack of guidance that limited my professional development, difficulty navigation ECSA outcomes in such a way that I could not even discover the interlink between the ten outcomes and lack of motivation to register as a professional Engineer. In early 2024, I submitted my application during the February cycle and was invited to an Experience Appraisal Interview. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as well as I had hoped. Although I believed I was prepared, I soon realised I didn’t fully understand what was expected of me. When I resubmitted in August of the same year, I knew I needed guidance from people who were experienced with the process if I wanted to succeed. The most valuable part of the mentorship programme for me was the trial presentations. The detailed feedback I received was incredibly helpful and gave me the confidence to approach the actual interview with poise, something that is absolutely crucial. Just two weeks after my interview, I received confirmation that I was registered. I highly recommend this mentorship to anyone going through the process. The mentors are exceptionally knowledgeable and clearly understand what the interviewers expect. Had I gone into my Professional Review without this support, I doubt I would have achieved the successful outcome I ultimately did. This programme truly equipped me with the skills and insight needed to navigate the process effectively.

Before the mentorship, I often felt unsure about the either i met the requirements to register as a Professional Technologist—especially since i have most experience in the local government/municipality engineering space. 2. I was struggling to breakdown the report and to take advantage on my area of strength since i have most experience and B-tech are in transportation engineering. 3. The support, encouragement, and honest feedback/ positive critics helped me grow in ways I didn’t expect. 4.I have stepped up in my role to be able to sign off engineering work, encouraged the team i am leading, I have earned myself recognition and stand a good chance to get more opportunities. 5.Definitely , I have already recruited colleagues and friends. The challenge on my road to registration was the ambiguity faced as I did not know where to begin nor how to plot a path from inception to acquisition of my registration. Dr. Sawyerr, my mentor, assisted in me through a step-by-step approach of the requirements per outcome and noting the achievement during my career. I would highly recommend this mentorship as the daunting task of registration was broken down into smaller, more manageable steps guided by a mentor with the knowledge of the ECSA requirements.

Being part of Bridge the Gap Engineer mentorship program played a significant role in my ECSA registration success. Before joining the program, I had attempted to register as a Professional Engineering Technologist twice with both attempts yielding no success. These setbacks had nothing to do with my lack of technical training and/or experience, but rather the lack of a properly structured mentorship to effectively guide me in demonstrating competence in line with ECSA requirements. After reaching out to Bridge the Gap Engineer, my Engineering Report was thoroughly reviewed receiving clear and concise constructive feedback which I utilized to revise my report. Upon receipt of my Pr review date the program facilitated two mock interviews that helped me to prepare comprehensively for the interview, morale boosting and confidence assuring I was well prepared for the actual interview.
